For its 2024 Awards (taking place on 15 February), more than 60 organisations have been shortlisted across 11 categories, ranging from sustainability and sales to customer service and community contribution.

The Chambers' Head of Membership, Lillian Elekan, noting: "Each recognised business has not only excelled in their respective category but has also left their mark on the economic landscape and community fabric of Greater Birmingham.”

res:harmonics: Birmingham past, present and future

Birmingham past

res:harmonics was born and bred in Birmingham. Having come from the serviced apartment and short-stay residential world with a background in tech, res:harmonics Founder and CEO, Giles-Horwitch Smith, saw first-hand how technology could solve many of innovative living’s challenges. Unable to find a tech platform that could run serviced apartments, coliving and build-to-rent (BTR) in a way that maximised sales, cut costs and improved guest experience, Giles decided to build it himself. From the start, Giles knew exactly where he wanted to do it.

Hailing from Birmingham himself, Giles came back to the city to set-up res:harmonics 15 years ago. Thanks to the city’s proximity to tech talent and its entrenched entrepreneurial spirit, res:harmonics has grown into a Birmingham success story. It is now globally recognised as one of the most reliable and scalable PropTech platforms in the innovative living space (including recent recognition at the 2023 BTR360 Awards and 2023 Coliving Awards).

Birmingham present

The growth of res:harmonics has been fueled by a team largely based in and around the city. In particular, res:harmonics has taken on several local apprentices and graduates from West Midlands’ leading colleges and universities, who’ve since become key members of the team.

In the last year, res:harmonics has shown an even greater commitment to Birmingham. We’ve moved offices to the newly opened 10x by Spacemade in Brindley Place. Meanwhile, Giles was recently invited to join a panel at Supertech – the West Midlands’ vibrant community of technology businesses.

Birmingham is the future

The res:harmonics all-in-one platform streamlines property management for companies in the nascent coliving, build-to-rent, and serviced apartment industries. These innovative living models are at the forefront of the UK’s housing revolution, changing how we live, work and interact with each other. Powered by PropTech, these businesses are expanding across the UK. Research conducted by Savills shows that future growth of the coliving industry will be driven by regional cities, including Birmingham, whose businesses will benefit from the influx of quality accommodation and the young talent it attracts.

What’s more, as res:harmonics continues to grow, our central base will attract more talent from Birmingham’s top universities. Instead of suffering a brain drain to London, tech talent will be able to sleep, work, live and breathe tech in the city - driving the wider ecosystem forward whilst firmly placing Birmingham on the tech map.

Flying the flag for Birmingham

Be it the increasing number of apartments and countries we support each year or the ever-growing list of new features and innovations we release, res:harmonics is proud to fly the flag for Birmingham’s tech ecosystem across the world and look forward to flying it even higher in the future.
